Since 2021: metadata as a service
Stock ImageIQ started as a metadata service. We worked as part of contributors' teams: titles, descriptions and keywords for every photo and video, written by hand, one shoot at a time.
By hand, but with a strategy
Writing by hand taught us what a generic tool can't guess. Near-identical frames from one shoot compete for the same search when they share one keyword set. So we gave every frame its own buyer and its own reason to be found, in each agency's vocabulary, with the strongest keywords first, and nothing about age or ethnicity that the contributor didn't tell us.
500,000+ files later
Over five years we managed metadata for more than 500,000 photos and videos for major stock contributors. The rules that worked became our standard.
Built with contributors
We built our system as we went, with suggestions and approvals from the contributors we worked for. Their corrections became rules, one at a time, so the output gets the specific details right. Then we put those rules and our keyword database into code that applies them to every file. An AI model looks at each image and drafts the text; our code decides the final keywords. The web app went live in June 2026, the Mac app in November 2026.
